There is no measurement problem for Humeans

چکیده
The measurement problem concerns an apparent conflict between the two fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, namely Schrödinger equation and postulate. These describe inconsistent behavior for systems in so-called “measurement contexts.” Many theorists have thought that can only be resolved by proposing a mechanistic explanation (genuine or apparent) wavefunction collapse avoids explicit reference to “measurement.” However, I argue here dissolves if we accept Humeanism about laws nature. On Humean metaphysics, there is no principles, nor any inherent with concept “measurement” figuring into account collapse.

Ceteris Paribus, There Is No Problem of Provisos
Much of the literature on ceteris paribus laws is based on a misguided egalitarianism about the sciences. For example, it is commonly held that the special sciences are riddled with ceteris paribus laws; from this many commentators conclude that if the special sciences are not to be accorded a second class status, it must be ceteris paribus all the way down to fundamental physics. We argue that...
متن کاملThere Is No Special Problem About Scientific Representation ∗
We propose that scientific representation is a special case of a more general notion of representation, and that the relatively well worked-out and plausible theories of the latter are directly applicable to the scientific special case. Construing scientific representation in this way makes the so-called “problem of scientific representation” look much less interesting than it has seemed to man...
متن کاملThere is no lexicon!
0. Introduction Within generative linguistics, underlying representations have been a sine qua non. Such representations have been thought to encode what is unpredictable or not governed by rules. Within Optimality Theory (henceforth OT), even though the rules are virtually gone, this view continues. The function GEN and EVAL pair an underlying representation with an optimal output. I argue aga...
متن کاملIs There NO Treatment For Severe Sepsis?
Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome in the presence of suspected or proven infection, and it may progress to or encompass organ failure (severe sepsis) and hypotension (septic shock). Clinicians possess an arsenal of supportive measures to combat severe sepsis and septic shock, and some success, albeit controversial, has been achieved by using low doses of corticosteroids or rec...
متن کاملThere is no Parkinson disease.
The term Parkinson disease defines a specific clinical condition characterized by a typical history and characteristic signs. This review examines the historical evolution of the concept of Parkinson disease and how the misunderstanding of Parkinson disease may be hindering clinical research trials. It is proposed that this syndrome be called Parkinson diseases or parkinsonism type 1 through in...
